Savouring the Flavors of SOBO: A Memorable Saturday Evening of Food, Friends n Fun in Town.

Updated: Jul 28, 2023

Introduction:

Saturday, 3rd June was a day that unfolded with unexpected twists and turns, leading to an adventure-filled exploration of South Bombay (SoBo) with my friends. From a visit to the OnePlus mobile service centre in Fort to indulging in mouthwatering delicacies at Punjabi Moti Halwai, sipping coffee and tea at a famous SoBo Restaurant, relishing chilled beer with scrumptious Veg Spring Rolls, capturing captivating moments at the Asiatic Society, and ending the day at the iconic Marine Drive, it was a Saturday to remember. Join me as I narrate the fascinating journey of this eventful day.

A Stop at OnePlus Service Center, Fort:

Our day began with an unexpected detour to Fort's OnePlus mobile service centre. Though it wasn't part of our original plan, it presented an opportunity to resolve my Oneplus 8 Pro phone issue. My phone has got green lines on the screen after a recent update but the OnePlus staff says they cannot replace the display free of cost as there are old damages on the screen and phone, otherwise, it was a free replacement. The cost of the display was told Rs. 18000/- which I think is not worth spending currently as I have other important monetary goals. So with disappointment on my face, we left the store and the time was to go somewhere and eat something.

Culinary Delights at Punjabi Moti Halwai:

So with the disappointment of no free service from OnePlus, we embarked on our gastronomic adventure at Punjabi Moti Halwai. The tantalizing aroma of spices greeted us as we entered the eatery. Usually, if you come on weekdays, you won't find a seat to sit in. We eagerly ordered their famous "Dal Pakwan," a delectable combination of lentil curry served with crispy flatbread. The richness of the flavours and the contrasting textures delighted our taste buds. This was not the end, as me and my friend both a foodie, cannot leave the restaurant by just eating one dish, so it was time to order Chole Samosa and Kachori. To complement our meal, I opted for a steaming cup of coffee while a friend enjoyed a comforting cup of tea. The conversation flowed effortlessly as we savoured every bite and shared stories and laughter. A separate review will be posted for this restaurant.

Capturing Memories at Asiatic Society:

Energized by our culinary escapades, we made our way to the iconic Asiatic Society (Town Hall), an architectural marvel that holds historical significance. The majestic building provided a stunning backdrop for our impromptu photoshoot. We struck poses, captured candid moments, and celebrated our bond of friendship against the backdrop of this grand structure. Each snapshot represented a memory frozen in time, reminding us of the laughter and camaraderie we shared. And by this we remembered our friend to call and check her whereabouts, somehow she said she is at home, so we told her to come to town. Without giving it any second thought, she immediately took the train and reached CSMT, I went to pick up her and told my friend to meet at Gokul, a restaurant behind Taj Mahal Hotel, near the famous not so famous Bademeiya and Bagdadi Restaurant.

Chilling with Beer and Veg Spring Rolls at Gokul:

With satisfied appetites, we decided to unwind at Gokul, a popular haunt known for its chilled beer and delectable bites. The cool ambience and not-so-friendly staff welcomed us as we settled down and ordered rounds of refreshing beer and cranberry breezer. To complement our drinks, we couldn't resist indulging in the crispy and flavorful Veg Spring Rolls. The combination of the crispy rolls and the chilled beer created a perfect harmony of taste and refreshment, further elevating our experience at Gokul.

Embracing the Enchanting Marine Drive:

As the day drew to a close, we couldn't miss the opportunity to visit Marine Drive, the crown jewel of SoBo. The shimmering lights and the gentle sea breeze created an enchanting ambiance. We strolled along the promenade, gazing at the breathtaking skyline and absorbing the serene atmosphere. The vast expanse of the Arabian Sea and the captivating hues of the sunset filled us with a sense of tranquillity and gratitude. It was the perfect ending to an eventful Saturday in SoBo.

Conclusion:

Saturday, 3rd June, proved to be a day of unexpected adventures and delightful experiences. From addressing a phone issue at the OnePlus service centre to savouring the flavours of Punjabi Moti Halwai, capturing moments of joy at the Asiatic Society, chilling with a beer and Veg Spring Rolls at Gokul, and embracing the beauty of Marine Drive, every aspect of the day added a unique charm to our SoBo exploration. It reminded us of the importance of spontaneity, friendship, and finding joy in unexpected moments. This Saturday will forever be cherished as a testament to the magic and wonders that unfold when we embrace the spirit of adventure.
